Back in the day, people are already quite independent in their early twenties, which they have a stable job, already married and have a kid or two. But now in the new century, many people are still depending on their parents for financial and practical assistance. Many people argue this is due to cultural and economic forces. As more opportunities appear for the new generation, more people want to commit to a career before establishing a family. At the same time, school is taking longer to finish so the starting age to a career is pushing to mid twenties. As the transition into adulthood prolongs, scholars are trying to create a new life stage which they call as "emerging adulthood". Unfortunately, some do not think that emerging adulthood can be qualify as a developmental stage since is neither universal and essential. One might think emerging adulthood is critical but is it really that important?
I personally think that emerging adulthood might not be a critical period for everyone. But it definitely let young adults to explore themselves before taking on more responsibilities in life. I would define this period of time as freedom where we are able and legal to do many things that we are not able to do in teens. This is a once in lifetime period where we could freely do anything without the worry of responsibility such as family or career. Therefore, I think twenty some period is and should be an experimental stage of life.
