The world has surely changed since the 1960’s. The baby
boomers straight path to adulthood, via the five milestones, has become far
more winding in today’s society. As for myself, I have been jumping back and
forth and in my mid 30’s I still haven’t reached all of the milestones. I
have many times wished for fewer options and a straighter way, like that 24
year old from Virginia. That would have made my and many other people’s lives a
lot easier, I think. As long as you are financially independent you can prolong
your youth and jump back and forth between these milestone steps. But it can
become a problem when a whole generation becomes dependent on their parents and
the society. Political and economic factors are currently preventing lots of
young people to get into the working life, even after graduating from College,
and therefor forcing them into dependency. There is a great risk in letting a
whole generation not growing up in time both for the individuals and the society. If that continues it will be a great loss and it will cost
us more than money to repair.
