20-somethings

Every generation will have its differences. One major difference is the economy, as it is always changing. Most of our parents were able to get through college by working during the summers of their college years. But nowadays, it almost seems impossible. Inflation, higher cost of living, and other related things are the biggest barriers why young adults struggle to strive. Rather than hopefully finding an internship  that will later help, students are compelled to work menial jobs outside of their field just to pay expenses. It only gets worse when by the time they are out of school, they have little to no experience in the field that worked so hard for in college.

Culture also has an effect to why young adults take a while to get to adulthood. Coming from a different culture, I saw how privileged Americans are. Back home, the certainty of escaping poverty and hunger is a college degree. Parents have nothing but endless encouragement to finish school so that one can get a well-paying job. It is even harder when one is the eldest child, as he is expected to carry the family through. Here, it is all different. One can find a job while still in high school. It may not pay well, but at least you are able to find work. Though not always the case, parents also help until the young adult is financially stable. Even in worst cases, there are still help available like government aide, organizations, and other useful resources most of which are not available compared elsewhere.  The mentality of living in a secured country is really different.
