How it feels to be 20-something

The article "What Is It About 20-Something" really hits close to home to many young adults. I agree that there has been a tremendous amount of change that has occurred in my generation than ever before. I think about my parents who were both very young when they had me; my mother was 18 while my dad was 19. They both worked very hard to move out and we started a family of our own. And although this situation is not like the typical older generation who went to school first, found a steady job, and then started a family, my parents grew up much quicker than the people my age are now. Many of my friends are content with living at home while the older generation were expected to move out to either go to college, or to get married.

This time period is very different than adolescence, as stated by Jefferey Jensen Arnett, and very similar at the same time. During both periods, we spend a great amount of time trying to figure out who we are and what we want to do. But unlike adolescence, this "emerging adulthood" is very scary. We are demanded our very best and our futures can be at stake if there are any mistakes. Students are expected to know their career path and they may realize that what they studied won't make them too financially stable. And now it is even harder to get entry level jobs. Students find themselves entering the work place without any experience because they concentrated on their studies full time. Also, with the amount of technology, many entry level jobs are no longer filled by people. This generation may seem more relaxed than others before us, but we still experience the same amount of anxiousness of where our lives will lead us.
